The Strangers II

1-27

This page: 13-27

We began the second year with a MANTRA crossover, and then began building the Pilgrim Connundrum, which culminated in the conjoined Annuals of THE NIGHT MAN and THE STRANGERS - a 100-page blockbuster. The identity of the Pilgrim, and how it had been worked, blew a lot of people's minds. Suffice it to say that - as usual - it had never been done before. Or even contemplated.

And it opened up several really spectacular plotlines, which haven't yet been followed up on due to Marvel's shutting down the Ultraverse. There were three issues ready to go when we got the word; their covers are shown at the bottom.

I was developing a Strangers CD-ROM game with Sony when the plug was pulled.

THE STRANGERS (MARVEL)

NOTES:

14-18: The clues to the Pilgrim are all there in plain sight, but only to be understood in the 100-page, double-Annual climax.

19-22: After 100 extra pages in the two Annuals, Rick Hoberg needed some time off. #20 is a fill-in and the others had fill-in artists.

25-27: As you can see, the team has new costumes. Their second anniversary included Ladykiller's new designs and a massive festival as San Francisco turned out to cheer their hometown heroes. (Can you read Rick's valedictory on #27?)
